Claas Lexion 770 TerraTrac Pack

I'm looking at another pack today, but in this case it's harvesters, one in particular-the Claas Lexion 770 TerraTrac Pack, which includes the Claas Lexion 770 TerraTrac, as well as a Claas Vario 1200 cutter, an 8-row Claas Conspeed maize/corn header and a header trailer for transport. The pack comes from the joint efforts of SFM-Modding and BM-Modding. All the models and textures appear correct for the implements, barring the header trailer, which has presumably been repainted to match your brand new Claas harvester.

Price comparisons first, I think. The TerraTrac is a bit cheap, with an in-game price of $370,000 compared to the (cheapest) real-life price of $404,178. That's a minor error, really we can overlook a $30,000 discrepancy when the price is above $300,000. Oddly, the Vario 1200 and Conspeed cutters are both more expensive than in real life, with the in-game Vario 1200 costing $97,000 compared to a (brand new) real-life model costing $57,713. That's a bit more than a minor oversight, it almost seems like the two modding teams forgot to do their research there. The same goes for the Conspeed 8 row harvester, with an in-game price of $58,000 compared to a real-life cost of $49,885. Again, quite a large difference in the prices there. I would compare the in-game price of the header trailer, a TAM Leguan Quattro, to the real-life cost, but apparently nobody is selling any of those at the moment. I'll just say that the price in-game is $16,000, which (to a non-farmer, I should say) seems a bit steep for a header trailer.

I managed to turn up a full specs list for the Claas Lexion 770 TerraTrac during my Google session, so I can run a full comparison to the information given in the game's shop, as well as what can be established through play. The fuel tank size is correct, at 1,150 litres, so well done to the mod teams for that. Fuel usage seems about correct for a vehicle of its size, so again well done to the two teams for the believable feel of the fuel system of the harvester. From the good points, I'm afraid I have to move on to the problems. The grain tank in the Claas Lexion 770 TerraTrac should hold no more than 12,000 litres of grain, although this particular harvester, as well as any other 770 TerraTracs that make their way into your Farming Simulator farms by way of this mod, have a mysterious extra 850 litres capacity. A minor oversight there, but it does take from the believability of the harvester. The maximum power output of the mod is also wrong, but unusually enough it has a reduced power output compared to its real-life counterpart. The in-game harvester puts out a maximum of 405kW/551hp, while in reality a 770 TerraTrac has a maximum power output of 451kW/586hp.

With the comparisons to reality done, I can now talk about the feel and behaviour of the different aspects in use here. The harvester can switch between driving and harvesting modes, making movement between fields a lot more realistic than the harvester driving along the road with the grain tank open. The header trailer can be attached to the back of the harvester, so there is no need for anyone to try and navigate AI traffic or reasonably tight roads with the 12 metre header attached. Again, the ability for the harvester to tow the header trailer complete with header is a nice added bit of realism in the mod, as well as a convenience feature.

Another nice convenience feature are the cameras available from the IC within the cab. If you want to drive this harvester yourself and do a lot of your work without using a hired worker force, you can just turn on the extra cameras and view the edge of the header you want to line up with the edge of the field. I'm guessing this is a reasonably realistic feature, as there do appear to be two cameras on top of the header. I tried this little feature out myself, and found I actually produced a straighter, cleaner harvest than the hired workers could, although it ended up being very time and fuel consuming, especially because hired workers don't use fuel without the intervention of a script or mod which enables that. The time issue is a non-issue if you have a smaller farm or a lot of time on your hands, so that is up to every individual person whether or not to use a worker.

Overall, this is a seriously good mod, allowing increased harvest speed. The increased intake compared to even the largest harvester in the game means you will end up using the tipper just as much if not more than with the larger stock harvesters. Personally, I think this mod is worth at least having a look at for your farm, if only to reduce the amount of windrowing necessary for any straw bale production. The only real issues I could find were that the hired workers ended up making some...interesting patterns in the field, and the price/power band issues I mentioned earlier. For a manual single- or multi-player map, this is one of the best harvesters to get...once you can afford all the goods, of course.
